47th Brno Oncology Days

Brno Oncology Days (BOD) were marked by three days of inspiring, innovative discussion on the most relevant challenges in oncology, alongside multidisciplinary meetings, treatment standards/guidelines, educational and scientific sessions. The conference objectives were designed to introduce the audience to the standard of care but also the latest information on modern therapies and emerging treatments in early development.

The Meeting took place from 1 to 3 November 2023.

Abstract of my lecture:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has seen tremendous development in the last year, from large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 to unsupervised foundation models. These innovations are likely to transform healthcare by enabling more accurate diagnosis, personalised treatment plans and intelligent clinical decision support. However, the blackbox nature of systems like LLM raises issues around transparency, accountability and AI security. This talk will discuss the meteoric rise of LLMs and explore their potential role in healthcare. We will mention some possible applications such as automated question answering while exploring some pitfalls such as bias amplification. The talk will attempt to outline how to deploy these AI systems ethically, maintain patient substitutability and provide clinical oversight.
